I believe that when everyone sees their dog grinning, they can’t help but move up to it and give it a kiss and a hug. However, many pet owners complain that their dogs’ mouths “stink” and that the love of kissing is too heavy! So, what should you do if your dog has "bad breath"? Let’s take a look!

1. Brushing teeth

Brushing teeth is the simplest and least harmful method to your dog, but the effect will not be too obvious. If you insist on brushing your dog's teeth every day, it will usually be effective in about 3 months. Owners can buy special toothbrushes and toothpastes for dogs. Be sure not to use human toothpaste to brush their teeth, otherwise it may lead to accidental ingestion poisoning.

2. Mouthwash

There are some mouthwashes on the market that are also effective in preventing dental calculus. If the dog's dental calculus is relatively mild, you can use mouthwash or tooth cleaning powder to partially dissolve or slow down the formation of dental calculus.

3. Adjust the diet

Dental calculus is mainly caused by food residues and bacterial secretions adhering to the teeth. It is mostly caused by dogs eating liquid or soft food for a long time, and food residues adhering to the teeth. Therefore, it is recommended that owners try to feed their dogs as little soft food as possible, such as canned dog food, wet food, meat, etc. Dog food should be the main food. They can also feed their dogs some molar sticks, dental cleaning sticks, etc. to help clean their mouths.

4. Artificially scrape off the dental calculus

If the dog's cooperation is relatively high and the dental calculus is relatively minor, the owner can manually use small tweezers to scrape off the dental calculus. However, this may cause damage to the tooth enamel and is more likely to cause food to stick to the teeth, leading to dental calculus. Therefore, it is necessary to brush the dog's teeth frequently at this time to prevent dental calculus.

5. Ultrasonic dental cleaning

If the dog’s dental calculus is severe or affects the dog’s normal life and diet, you need to take the dog to a pet hospital for professional dental calculus cleaning. Because teeth cleaning requires general anesthesia, it only needs to be done when the dog is in good health. After the dental calculus is completely removed, it is recommended that you still brush your dog’s teeth regularly or use tooth cleaning gel, tooth cleaning mouthwash and other products for care to protect your dog’s dental health.
