Neville admitted that he underestimated Amorim's formation against Liverpool.

Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1, ending their winless spell at Anfield. Red Devils legend Neville says some of his pre-match thoughts were proven wrong by Manchester United coach Amorim.

Manchester United has never won at Anfield since Louis van Gaal took charge in January 2016. However, when summer signing Mbemo put United ahead just 62 seconds into the game, it set the stage for victory. Gakpo equalized in the second half, but Maguire's subsequent header put United ahead again and sent the away fans into ecstasy.

Neville admitted that he underestimated Amorim's lineup selection. He believes the likes of Casemiro, Maguire and De Ligt may not be enough to withstand Liverpool's fast and dynamic attack. However, the Sky Sports pundit was proven wrong as his parent club Manchester United claimed an important three points in the crucial showdown.

Neville said: "It's not just me, when I saw the Manchester United starting lineup, I felt that we had no chance. Three or four Manchester United fans texted me and said, Oh my god, Casemiro and B Fee are in the midfield, Maguire and De Ligt are in the defense. You know the speed of Liverpool, their midfield energy and running ability. And Casemiro played two games for Brazil on the international break and also traveled long distance from Asia. Walking back, you think, what kind of formation is this? But that was the thought before the game."

"Within a minute, this thought disappeared, because it was a wonderful moment for Manchester United, and Amad's pass to Mbemo gave them a good start."

Another Sky Sports commentator Carragher also said that Amorin's bold decision proved people wrong. It was United's solid defensive performance that won them the game, with Yoro outstanding and Maguire's goal proving he deserves to be in the starting XI.

Neville's concerns are justified, especially considering Manchester United's previous poor performance. The victory was Amorim's first consecutive Premier League win since taking over, an incredible record considering he only took over Manchester United last November. Casemiro and B Fee rarely work as a midfield partnership. Manchester United performed poorly last season and ultimately ranked only 15th in the Premier League.

However, this time the Portuguese coach's decision turned out to be a coup, and Manchester United is now ranked 9th. If they can continue this form and win three of their last four Premier League games, United could even be in the running for Europe, which would be a huge improvement on last season.
