Slott: I was moved by many Liverpool fans, these memories will always be in my heart
According to Liverpool's official website, Slott recently accepted an exclusive interview with the club.
Liverpool won the championship four rounds ahead of schedule and defeated Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield Stadium last month, locking the Premier League championship four rounds ahead of schedule. The victory was accompanied by an incredible carnival atmosphere, winning the club's 20th top league title. Head coach Slott led the team to this achievement in his first season and recalled the memorable day a few weeks later.
About winning the championship in advance
When I think back to that day, two things made me very excited. The first thing is when we got to the stadium, all the fans were singing ‘We’re going to win the league, and now you have to believe us’. It’s not what they sing, but the passion they sing. It's really, really impressive, and everyone is a voice from the bottom of their hearts. This makes me a little excited now. Although I don’t cry, every time I think of this, I will touch me. The second thing that touched me very much was that many people told me, 'I've been following Liverpool for 45 years, or 40 years, or even a lifetime, but I've never experienced a moment like this in Anfield. ’ This moved me because I wasn’t the only one who won the trophy for the first time in 35 years at the club. No, this club has had so much success throughout its history and then people say it’s one of their special moments and being able to get involved as a coach…every time someone says something to me, I feel like ‘we really did something special’.
In addition to this, the celebrations throughout the stadium also made me very happy. These two things really touched me. In retrospect, what makes me very happy are the songs that are being played, a huge compliment for DJs, and those fans who are far away from the court. This is an incredible day that will remain in my memory forever.
Regarding post-match celebrations
I always feel that fans are waiting for such a moment, and I always think, ‘Don’t celebrate too early, and interact with the fans when we finally win the championship’ because that’s what Klopp has been doing. I don't want to imitate Klopp throughout the season, but I think it's a great moment to do it. I didn't do it alone and my team was there, and I think it was a special moment for us.
About Liverpool fans
Yes, the team has also made connections, but I think if they use the number of times they sing my name, they can be said to be quite satisfied with me! From the beginning, both Liverpool citizens and people at the AXA training center made me feel very welcome. I think Klopp's performance in the last game has also helped, but since I first came here and first stepped into Anfield Stadium, I immediately felt that everyone was positive. Everyone gave me a warm welcome and supported the team. They have been doing this throughout history, and so have been my time as head coach, which has been very helpful to me.
So, from the beginning to now, I have felt everyone’s warm welcome, and I hope this situation can last for a long time. This song is also very popular in the Netherlands, maybe it's no coincidence, because these fans can always come up with special songs. I don't think many clubs have so many special songs, and our fans really stand out in that regard.
