Sun: Birmingham will build a new stadium with a capacity of 62,000 people, and plans to be completed before the 29-30 season
The Sun reported that Birmingham released renderings of the St Andrews Stadium alternative. The Champions League club plans to build a top-notch modern stadium that costs £2-3 billion before the 2029-30 season. This means Birmingham may bid farewell to St Andrews home court, which has been its spiritual home since 1906.
This planned new spacecraft-style stadium plans to significantly increase its capacity from 29,409 to 62,000. This will make it the eighth largest stadium in England, with only 850 seats less than Tottenham and slightly larger than Anfield Stadium (61,276 seats). The giant building's exterior is designed in blue wrapping, with the words BLUES repeated, but the club admitted that the final design may still be adjusted.
Infrastructure Director Nick Smith has made progress on the update of the new stadium design plan: Currently, only five construction companies are left to participate in the bidding, and the selection is expected to be completed in September and the final cooperative architect will be determined in October. The new stadium may host large-scale non-football events, and is expected to hold Taylor Swift concerts and NFL events in the future, which will undoubtedly make investor and NFL legend Tom Brady happy.
fans responded enthusiastically to this plan. Someone said on social media: "It is still unbelievable that the club is undergoing great changes, and Nick Smith has made an indelible contribution."
Another person wrote: "Birmingham regained vitality inside and outside."
Some fans sighed: "I never thought the club could develop so much. How lucky we are with a visionary boss and execution team."
Smith also announced the renovation plan for the existing stadium in the 2025-26 season. The video specifically displays the newly built Trevor Francis statue outside the St. Andrews stadium. The entire statue is 4.2 meters high, of which the Francis statue is 2.2 meters high, and the design is quite impressive. The club also renovated the VIP area, replaced the fixed furniture with movable furniture, and laid carpets to enhance the high-end experience.
The behind-the-scenes facilities are also upgraded, with a new female referee locker room added, and medical facilities are fully upgraded to deal with traumatic injuries of players in a timely manner.
