Recently, English football legend Rooney discussed the difficulty of young English forwards adapting to the Premier League game and his son's position change on the "Wayne Rooney Show".

Rooney said: "The overall level of England players has indeed improved a lot, but I think the problem is that they don't want to play No. 9. Because of the tactical needs of modern football. If you look around the world, there are not many real traditional No. 9 forwards. So this is not only a problem in England, the entire world is at the No. 9 position. They all have the same dilemma."

■ When talking about Rooney's son Kai's position as a forward in the past, Rooney further explained: "He is now playing on the right. He is a left-footed player, cutting in from the right." Rooney once again emphasized that cultivating a "shooting forward" in the traditional sense is no longer common in today's football.

■Rooney also discussed how Kai dealt with the huge expectations that came with carrying the surname "Rooney" while pursuing a professional football career.

Rooney said: "He has a very good coach at Manchester United, so I basically keep my distance. I will communicate with him, but the most important thing for me is his mentality and mental state, to ensure that he always enjoys football. For me, this is the most important thing."

Rooney's son is now 16 years old and has joined Manchester United's youth training since 2020. He has served as a forward at all levels and performed well.
