TA: Tottenham is negotiating with Bayern for Palignia, but prefers loan instead of permanent transfer
Tottenham and Bayern have completed a deal earlier this summer, with Premier League teams signing striker Terr, who was loaned to England last season's winter window for a maximum of 45 million euros.
30-year-old Palinia joined Bayern from Fulham for 51 million euros last summer window, but made only 25 appearances in her debut season, including 10 starts. Bayern coach Kompany usually prefers other midfielders such as Kimmich, Gretzka, Pavlovic and Lemmer than Paligna in the 2024-25 season. Meanwhile, the German champion team also signed 20-year-old Tom Bischoff from Hoffenheim this summer, further enhancing the midfield choice.
Paligna has become a key figure in the team since transferring to Fulham from Portugal Sports in 2022. He made 79 appearances for Fulham and was elected the club's best player in his debut season. Before entering the Premier League, the midfielder spent his entire career in Portugal. He transferred from the Saka Literati youth training camp in 2013 and then played for the Morela, Beren and Braga on loan.
The Portuguese international may become Tottenham's fourth new player this summer. North London club is quite active in the transfer market after appointing Thomas Frank as head coach:
Tottenham signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United for £55 million earlier in July, while signing defenders Luka Vuskovic and Takai from Hayduke and Kawasaki forwards respectively.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs White was originally planning to undergo a medical examination at Tottenham, but then unexpectedly renewed the signing. In fact, Tottenham's pursuit of Gibbs White is exciting but slightly confusing because of their sufficient reserves for attacking midfielders, including Kulusevsky, James Madison and Kudus.
Palinia will solve the area where Tottenham has had problems in the past few seasons. Rodrigo Bentankur and Yves Bisuma are currently on the team, but neither of them are perfect candidates. Their contracts are all left for the last 12 months, and the long-term future is uncertain.
Palinia is a Premier League-proven player who will liberate Madison, Kulusevsky and Lucas Berrival to take him further. Although this is slightly off Tottenham's transfer strategy. Since John Lange became a sports director in November 2023, they have focused on introducing young talents such as Berrival, Grey and Wilson Odobet.
However, they need more experience as they return to the Champions League, and Palinia can provide that. The short-term deal will be ideal for Tottenham, avoiding excessive capital investment, and by next summer Gray may be ready to become their preferred No. 6.
